Unlike many other contemporary tattooists, from the beginning of his career, Ian has been obsessed solely with traditional Japanese tattoos. This focus and choice of influences separates his style from the majority of artists in Sydney who came toward Japanese images later in their careers. Taking influence from the more traditional Japanese tattoo artists as well as Ukiyo-E masters, Ian states “I always strives to ensure the style is built on the correct aesthetic elements that construct proper Japanese Wabori: solid lines with a combination of thick and thin contour, appropriately sized skin gaps and solid colour”. In only his 4th year of tattooing, it is impressive to note that Ian already has numerous large scale pieces to his name and many more in progress.
